Event Description
Julian Gaskell & his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists present Broadside Bangers – a journey into the archives with the most melodramatic, gruesome and supernatural broadside ballads from the 17th to 19th centuries.
The band perform lyrics concerning funeral arrangements, cat food, poverty, dishonesty, water quality, marriage and more in a riotous, folk- punk, theatrical plethora of musical styles.
This show will cover as much ground as possible, inspired by django-esque guitar tunes, Klezmer, Irish folk, calypso, howling Americana, European, agricultural, 19th century pop music and anything and everything in between.
Expect legendary dry comedic banter weaving together the threads of a musical journey around the world, a heady mix of ballads along with the occasional original song or subversive cover version.
